Every local RAG tutorial benchmarks the generation model and ignores the four stages in front of it. On a single Mac the embed, retrieve, rerank, and generate steps compete for the same unified memory and the same GPU, so the interesting number is not tokens per second, it is the wall clock from question to first useful token across the whole chain. We measured that budget end to end on an M5 Max and found the bottleneck is almost never where people expect.

Reviews platforms are easy on a themed Shopify store and hard the moment you go headless, because the widget that does all the work disappears and you are left with whatever API the vendor bothered to build. We compare Yotpo, Okendo, and Junip on the things that actually matter when the storefront is custom: API completeness, webhook reliability, review data you can own, and pricing that does not punish growth.

Gemini 3.5 Pro and GPT-5.5 are the two frontier models most teams are actually choosing between for a coding agent that is not Claude. We ran both on Aider Polyglot and LiveCodeBench, then priced the cost per solved task, because the pass rate and the bill rank the two models differently. The model that wins the benchmark is not automatically the model that wins your coding budget, and the edit format reliability is the tiebreaker most comparisons skip.

Feature flags and A/B testing are the part of a headless build that teams defer until a launch goes sideways and they have no safe way to roll it back. On a headless Shopify Plus storefront the flag evaluation happens at the edge, before render, so the wrong SDK becomes a latency tax on every page. We compared LaunchDarkly, Statsig, and GrowthBook on edge evaluation, SDK fit, analytics depth, and pricing, and the platform with the best dashboard is not always the one that fits a headless render path.

Everyone benchmarks tokens per second. Almost nobody benchmarks the seconds before the first token, which is the number that decides whether a multi model local setup feels instant or sluggish. We measured cold start, warm start, and first token latency for MLX and llama.cpp on an M5 Max across three model sizes, and the load path matters as much as the decode speed once you serve more than one model from a single box.

Three computer use agents are credible for real web and desktop automation in mid 2026: Claude Computer Use, OpenAI Operator, and Perplexity Computer. We ran all three on OSWorld, WebArena, and a real multi step procurement workflow, then measured task success rate, steps per completed task, and cost per completed task. The agent with the highest raw benchmark score is not the one with the lowest cost per completed task, and the reason is retry behavior.

Returns are the part of the post purchase stack that gets bolted on last and hurts the most on a headless storefront, because the vendor's hosted returns portal assumes a Liquid theme you no longer have. We compared Loop Returns, AfterShip Returns, and Narvar on the things that actually decide a headless integration: API and webhook coverage, exchange logic, warehouse and OMS hooks, and the pricing model. The platform with the best merchant facing portal is not always the one with the API surface a headless build needs.

Local inference on Apple Silicon is usually benchmarked on tokens per second. That number tells you how fast the box is, not how cheap it is to run. We metered M5 Max, M5 Ultra, and M4 Max at the wall under a sustained MLX serving load, then converted the readings into tokens per watt and energy cost per million tokens. The fastest chip does not win the cost per million tokens line, and the reason is the idle floor.

Anthropic's Fable 5 launched as the reasoning-first frontier tier in April 2026, and Sonnet 5 landed as the sensible-default coding and general tier in June 2026. The two models are priced at parity but land at different points on the reasoning tier. We ran both across GPQA Diamond, Humanity's Last Exam, MATH 500, and a 500 question long form research workload, then measured accuracy at first attempt and cost per correct answer.

Anthropic ships two tiers of frontier coding capability in mid 2026: Claude Sonnet 5 at the sensible-default tier, and Claude Opus 4.8 at the maximum-capability tier. The list price gap is 5x on input and 5x on output. We ran both across SWE Bench Pro, Terminal Bench 2, Aider Polyglot, and a 1,200 issue real repository workload, then measured cost per resolved issue. The tier decision does not fall where the pass rate delta suggests.

A Shopify Hydrogen storefront that outgrows the Oxygen default runs into three choices for a production edge runtime: Fastly Compute, Cloudflare Workers, or Vercel Edge Functions. The three platforms differ on cold start, PDP time to first byte, cache behavior, and egress pricing in ways that change the operating cost of a high traffic storefront by a factor of two to five at scale.

Frontier vision models finally read documents well enough to displace the specialist document AI stack for most invoice, contract, and financial statement workloads. We ran Claude Opus 4.8 Vision, GPT 5.5 Vision, and Gemini 3.5 Pro against DocVQA, ChartQA, and a 6,000 page real world extraction workload, then measured cost per successfully extracted field. The model that wins the benchmark page is not the model that wins the extraction cost sheet.
